Jurassic Park in a museum, on the Jurassic Coast in Lyme Regis, what’s not to love about that?
An exciting place to visit with your kids for the dinosaur fanatics and fossils. The archeologists who run the museum have been operating for 25 years, with more than 14,000 specimens on display including enormous Ichthyosaur to the tiniest fish and ammonites, real Chinese dinosaurs, Russian trilobites and a 73 kilo lump of dinosaur dung!
The majority of the collections stored in the museum were found along the shoreline of the Jurassic Coast, so you could take a break from your own fossil hunting and step into Dinosaurland for some famous pieces.
The Lyme Regis Marine Aquarium is one of the few aquariums in the UK to only feature local species, showcasing the marine life which can be found along the Jurassic Coast.
The aquarium is located on the end of the iconic Cobb and features a diverse display of local marine life, but its main attraction is the interactive elements including mullet feeding, holding starfish and getting up close with lobsters and crabs. The typical visitation time at the aquarium is around 30 minutes.

Rockpooling is a great way for kids to get familiar with the marine life. At low tide limestone rock, known as Broad Ledge is exposed. As the tide falls back, rockpools full of amazing marine creatures are revealed.
Rock pools can be really fun as they are natural aquariums where you can discover anemones, crabs, limpets, winkles and an array of seaweeds.

Fossil hunting is a fun activity and is very rewarding – you need is a bit of patience, a good eye and determination to find your own piece of history.
Fossils can be found exposed amongst the beach pebbles and rocks, just waiting for you to walk a long and pick them up! When the waves crash into the cliffs, over time the cliffs then collapse into the sea and the waves drag the fossils out onto the beaches.
The fossils found are from the Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous geological periods, spanning 185 million years from between 250 and 65 million years ago.
The fossil hunting beaches are Monmouth Beach and East Cliff Beach between Lyme and Charmouth.
Guided fossil walks are also a big hit in Lyme Regis, especially if you don’t know exactly what you are looking for. The walks run from January – December and can be booked in advance of your stay, for you to enjoy with your kids.
Combining football and golf and then teeing off to kick the ball as far as you can (in as little kicks as possible), to then finish by kicking the ball in the hole.
