Spirits are expected to be high on Saturday 23rd November 2024 as Lyme Regis begins its countdown to Christmas with the big switch on of the town’s Christmas lights. The lighting up of Lyme never fails to draw crowds and gasps of wonder from onlookers soaking up the magical seasonal atmosphere. This year Santa will again be arriving on his sleigh to switch on the lights.

The Christmas Tree Festival held in the Pine Hall at the Baptist Church is one of the town’s best loved festive events which showcases a stunning array of glittering Christmas trees decorated by local groups, businesses and organisations.

Santa is coming to town. On Saturday 14th December Santa will be visiting Lyme Regis and you can book a 5 minute slot to meet him in his grotto in the foyer of Pine Hall, Lyme Regis Baptist Church.

Get into the festive spirit and join one of Lyme’s longest running traditions, the annual Carols Round the Tree event organised by the Rotary Club of Lyme Regis. The popular community event always attracts a large crowd and raises funds for a chosen local charity. Traditional carols are sung around the large Christmas tree at the bottom of Broad Street. Music is provided by the Lyme Regis Town Band.

The New Year’s Day dip has become an annual tradition in Lyme Regis with hundreds of hardy souls taking a bracing plunge into the sea dressed in weird and wonderful outfits. The event is witnessed by thousands of spectators on the beach and in the gardens above. The Lyme Lunge is an annual fancy dress swim which takes place on New Year’s Day. Organised by Lyme Regis Rotary Club, the event takes place on the sandy beach from 1pm and aims to raise as much money as possible for charity. This year’s main beneficiares are The Alzheimers Society and Asthma + Lung UK alongside Rotary charities.
